Academic testing is an important part of the Nexus admissions process. Following the futbol evaluation, application, and submission of academic records and recommendations, testing helps us understand the student’s current level of academic readiness and determine whether Nexus can provide the appropriate level of challenge and support.

ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam)
All applicants to grades 3 to 12 are required to complete the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE). The ISEE provides a standardized measure of a student’s academic skills and reasoning abilities. Nexus reviews the results as one part of the student’s complete admissions file.

​ISEE Levels
​The student’s testing level is determined by the grade for which the student is applying:

• Primary: For students applying to grades 3–4
• Lower Level: For students applying to grades 5–6
• Middle Level: For students applying to grades 7–8
• Upper Level: For students applying to grades 9–12

Areas Assessed
Depending on the applicant's testing level, the ISEE may assess:

1. Verbal Reasoning – Vocabulary and reasoning with language
2. Quantitative Reasoning – Math problem solving and logic
3. Reading Comprehension – Understanding and interpreting texts
4. Mathematics Achievement – Grade-level math skills
5. Essay – A written response that demonstrates a student’s ability to organize and express ideas

How Nexus Reviews ISEE Levels
Nexus reviews section scores, percentile rankings, and the student’s writing sample within the context of the complete application.

There is no single score that guarantees or prevents admission. Results help the admissions team evaluate academic readiness, appropriate placement, and the level of support a student may need.

Registration, Fees and Score Reporting
Families are responsible for registering their student for the ISEE and paying the applicable testing fee. Testing options and fees vary based on the location and testing format selected.

Preparing for the ISEE
Students should become familiar with the test structure and question formats before test day. Thoughtful preparation can help students approach the assessment with greater confidence and demonstrate their current abilities more accurately.
Families are encouraged to:

• Review the test format and instructions
• Use official sample questions and practice materials
• Complete practice sections under timed conditions
• Identify areas that may need additional review
