State of the School 2026 by Nexus
2026 STATE OF THE SCHOOL RECAP
Growth & Stability
  • Nexus will remain in our current location in Pearland, continuing to build on its current foundation
  • Significant growth from 30 last year to 56 students this year, and we learned a lot.
  • Continued progress toward Cognia accreditation and global positioning
  • Student body is capped at 12 students/class (4th-8th)
    • Admissions reflects our executed vision with more students being denied/waitlisted than accepted this year
    • Focusing on deeply developing fewer students than adding more for the sake of revenue.
    • Streamlining admissions to find the right fit student
  • Addition of new owners of Nexus Futbol Academy in Houston Wendy Canales and Rodrigo Petillo

Academic Program
  • Introduction of the Independent Scholar Model (starting in high school for the 2026-27 school year)
    • Nexus-built online courses + dual credit options
    • Focus on independence, time management, and ownership
    • Maintains in-person support and community
  • We added Spanish classes across the school this year, and we will continue to refine it next year
  • Implementation of CTP-5 standardized testing (national benchmarking) this year in April
  • Weekly college admissions classes led by Ibrahim Firat
  • Classroom curriculum visibility through online course pages.

Student Development
  • Continued participation in iWrite program (published writing opportunities)
  • Expansion of Wellness curriculum (physical, mental, nutrition)
  • Addition of Game IQ + film analysis for older players
  • Introduction of bi-annual parent-teacher-coach conferences starting in 2026-27

Fútbol Program
  • Expanded futsal training and structured development pathways
  • Alignment of afternoon training with report cards for targeted development
  • Multiple students this year participated in Global X programs, more programs to be added, including a summer pre-season
  • Addition of a Spanish Head Coach (in progress)
  • Facility upgrades, including updated turf

Global & Professional Pathways
  • Launch of Nexus Football Agency
    • Led by Ibrahim (FIFA-licensed agent) and Coach Henry Costas (International Scout)
    • Player pathway:
      • Formation
      • Pre-professional
      • Professional

Community & Experience
  • Continued traditions and community engagement
  • Plans for World Cup events and watch parties
  • Improvements to lunch program and student fuel options

What This Means
We are not expanding for the sake of growth.  We are deepening the experience.
  • Stronger academic structure
  • Clearer development pathways
  • More meaningful global opportunities
  • Higher expectations for independence and performance
